Northamptonshire LINk is a group of individuals and community groups who work together to improve Northamptonshire's health and social care services (such as hospitals, care homes and GPs). It is responsible for ensuring people's views are heard.

Health services

Dentists

More dentists should be available on the NHS.

A dental service at Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough would be useful.

There is a lack of dental services in the county.

Dental care is good in Northamptonshire.

There is concern about the quality of dental care in the county.

There is an issue around the availability of dentists in Wellingborough.

 

Podiatry

Elderly and disabled people should be able to access podiatry care as this can cause mobility issues.

 

Additional services

There is a need for a neurology department at Kettering.

An outpatient facility is needed at Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough.

There should be better access to physiotherapy.

 

Medication

Medication should be administered correctly to prevent conflict from arising.

The contents of some medication causes an allergic reaction: lactose, wheat, soya and maize are still used by some manufacturers.

There should be consistency of care and approach when dealing with patients on a regular basis.

Questions were raised about the standards of service provision by NCC and NHS.

Health services should be designed around the needs of local people.

There is good chiropody care in the county.

There is good optical care in the county.

There should be more neuro-physio availability in Northamptonshire.

 

Motor Neurone Disease

There is a need for a specialist neruological palliative nurse. The additional capacity and specialism will give a case co-ordination role which will release other members of the team supporting the patient to focus on their roles.

There is a need for funding for equipment when patients' conditions progress rapidly. The funding from PCT is not readily available. The gap is often filled by organisations such as MND.
